Interview Bloopers That Drive Hiring Managers Crazy

A job interview is the most crucial step in your career path; make sure you don’t let small interview mistakes change your destiny. Here are things that drive hiring managers crazy. BEWARE!!!
Interviews are known to give shudders to most and in a situation like this; people are known to do things that portray them as stupid and desperate. Yes, we know the rules, prepare, reach on time, carry a copy of CV and the list goes on. Despite having an impressive CV, if you are still looking for a job there may be subtle nuances you are still missing out on. Here is a list of things that drive hiring managers crazy, make sure to watch your steps and ...

1. Don’t Overdo it: Yes, there are openings in your dream company and there is a position that matches your experience and skills. If you want to work here, apply for a job that is a match to you and not to all the openings that the company has. Many job seekers keep applying for every available position that the company is hiring for, irrespective of their qualifications and previous work experience. This is one of the most annoying things that a candidate can do. It is not only a waste of time for the hiring managers but also for the candidate. If you do this, you will come across as desperate and stupid, and the prospect employer will never take you seriously.

2. Don’t Interrupt: Interviews are opportunities for you to give away as much information about yourself to the prospect employer, but this doesn’t mean that during the interview you just don’t stop talking. You have to understand that listening is as important as talking. Hiring managers are likely to get really irritated if you don’t listen to what they have to say. Many are known to disqualify the candidate because of similar reasons. Though your chattiness may be because of nervousness, it is usually perceived that you could be a problem candidate and it would be difficult to manage you as an employee.

3. Don’t be Under-dressed: It is said that you should always dress not for the job you have but the job you want. It is very important to dress well for an interview, walking in, in a pair of jeans and a baggy t-shirt gives an impression that you are either too careless or you have no respect for the position and company you are applying for. It is equally important to dress well even for a video interview. Yes, you may be sitting in the comfort of your home but messy hair and unbuttoned shirts are definitely a bad idea.

4. Don’t Bring an Audience: There is a new trend observed in the industry these days, fresher graduates from college bring along an audience with them for an interview. This audience is usually parents who come along with their child, and are seated outside while the candidate is appearing for the interview. After the grill hour is over, parents usually tend to go and have a word with the interviewer asking questions like, “How did she perform?” or “Was he fine during the interview?” The idea of bringing your parents to an interview is absolutely absurd to a hiring manager. You have to understand that by doing so, you are destroying your personal brand and you come across as incapable and incompetent.

Want that job? Leave your parents at home because no interviewer wants to negotiate the employment offer with your dad.

5. Don’t Nag: We always stress on the importance of follow up, but remember not to overdo it. Multiple phone calls and numerous emails a day will likely send your CV to the trash can. Yes, you may have an impressive resume and the interview you appeared for must be top class. But nagging the company in a manner that is considered annoying will slim your chances of getting that job to the minimum.
