Highlights for higher education after+2

Secondary education is not completely uniform throughout the country. Diversity in standards of school and State Boards exists. How does your qualification compare to other similar levels of qualifications ?

Competitive examinations at the All India level are based on State and Central Board syllabii. State board syllabus is covered in entrance exams conducted by professional colleges within the state.

At the graduate level, there are honours and pass/general courses offered by many universities. Honours courses are generally considered more rigorous than general or pass courses. Diploma courses of 2/3 year duration after school are not considered equivalent to degree courses for admission to post graduate degree or diploma courses.

Professional colleges vary in the level of competitiveness. There are extremely competitive colleges/courses for which there are far more applicants than the colleges offering seats, and the applicants come from all parts of the country and abroad with the best of school education/entry level qualification. The chances of getting in are obviously related to academic preparedness and skills. It is easier to seek admission to lesser competitive colleges to aquire a professional qualification and build up your professional worth with work experience.

Postgraduate and professional autonomous institutions grant diplomas unless the institution has an affiliation with a university or the status of a deemed university. Diploma courses from prestigious professional institutes may be of far more value than a university degree in terms of employability.
